Abstract: In order to analysis the meshing characteristics of hypoid gears with extended epicycloid, including contact pattern, bending stress, contact ratio and transmission error, the finite element analysis and experiments are carried on. The simulation result is shown that the contact area of the tooth surface at a certain time is approximately oval, which increases first and then decreases on a single tooth surface during the meshing process. For both the pinion and gear, the danger points on the tooth root are mainly subjected to tensile stress. The danger point of the pinion is subjected to tensile stress first, then compressive stress, while the danger point of the gear is opposite. The contact ratio of the gear increases with the increase of load. The transmission error is greatly affected by the load, and the transmission error under small load is large. With the increase of the load, it decreases and then increases, and then gradually decreases stable. The research content of this article has certain guiding significance for the design and use of hypoid gears.
