Abstract: In order to investigate the safety of aircraft tractors tug operations, this paper conducts text mining and analysis on 12 537 narratives and briefs involving unsafe incidents with aircraft tractors in the aviation safety reporting system (ASRS) from 1989 to 2023. By integrating the SHELL model, the paper identifies the key elements of aircraft tractors tug operations. Subsequently, the SHELJaccard coefficient matrix is used to analyze the relationships between these key elements, and measures for the prevention and control of safety in aircraft tractors tug operations are proposed. The study finds that the key elements of aircraft tug operations are as follows: hardware elements mainly consisting of pins, brakes, speed control devices, connectors, and communication equipment; software elements mainly consisting of tug checklists, airport ground guidance lines, and airport management; human elements mainly consisting of tug drivers, guides, guards, and crews; and environmental elements mainly consisting of visibility, ground conditions, and obstacles.
